India to become third largest economy in world by 2030: PwC 


India is set to become the third largest economy in the world by 2030, according to latest estimates by a PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) report. 

The London-headquartered accountancy giant said the rapid rise of the Indian economy with its young workforce would push it up from being the 10th largest economy in 2013 to the third largest by 2030, pushing the UK back into sixth place. 


 It is expected that China, the second largest economy in the world, will be closing the gap with America by 2030, while it is predicted that Mexico will be the 10th largest economy by 2030, above Italy and Canada, which are both G7 nations. China has for the last decade ranked above Japan as the second largest economy in the world

RJD marks 19th foundation day

The  Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on July 5th celebrated the party's 19th foundation day in all districts of Jharkhand with leaders pledging support to party supremo Lalu Prasad. The party's state president Girinath Singh called upon party leaders to work in unity as the motto behind floating the party in 1996 was to give social justice which had current relevance. 

Colour-coded stickers for cars with pollution under control certificate 


The high-powered committee set up to suggest ways to reduce air and water pollution, chaired by chief secretary SK Srivastava, is exploring the possibility of introducing colour-coded stickers for cars to differentiate between the ones with a pollution under control (PUC) certificate and the ones which don't have it. Only those with the colour-coded sticker will be allowed to refuel at petrol pumps.

WHO ranked Delhi as the world's worst city for air pollution.Following the WHO report, Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung set up a high-powered committee headed by Chief Secretary S.K. Srivastava to study the pollution in the river Yamuna and vehicular pollution in the city.

4 Indian-Americans honoured in US on Independence day 

Four Indian-Americans were among 40 people who were honoured for their contributions to the US in the annual Great Immigrants tribute in New York on the country’s independence day.

Microsoft Corp chief executive Satya Nadella
Hyderabad-born Nadella created quite a stir recently by becoming one of the most powerful leaders in technology after taking over as head of the Microsoft Corp. He studied electronics and communication engineering before heading to the US in the 1980s.


Comedian and actor Aasif Mandvi
Mumbai-born Mandvi first moved to England before migrating to the US when he was 16. He became famous as a correspondent on “The Daily Show,” where he was known for his satire on issues such as Islam, the Middle East and South Asia.

Carnegie Mellon University president Subra Suresh
Suresh, who is an engineer and scientist, was born in Chennai and moved to the US to work on a postgraduate science degree, graduating in 1979. He is the ninth president of the Carnegie Mellon University.
He served as director of the National Science Foundation from 2010 to 2013. Appointed by US President Barack Obama, he led the federal science agency in its mission to advance the fields of science and engineering research.

Former President of the University of West Georgia, Beheruz Sethna 
Sethna was born in India in 1948 and served as the sixth president of the University of West Georgia – the first Indian-American to lead a university in the US.




Czech Petra Kvitova Wins Wimbledon Title



Petra Kvitova claimed her second Wimbledon title on Saturday with a crushing command performance over Canadian Eugenie Bouchard

Playing in her first Grand Slam final since her maiden triumph at Wimbledon, the 24-year-old Kvitova produced a brilliant display of power-hitting to secure the 12th career title. Kvitova had won Wimbledon title for the first time in 2011.

Bouchard was also the first Canadian player, male or female, to reach a Grand Slam final.

Former Chief Justice Farooqi passes away 


Mufti Baha-ud-Din Farooqi who served as 12th Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir from March 7, 1983 to August 23, 1983 passed away at his residence Saturday morning.
Farooqi also served as Chairman of the People Basic Rights Commission, an independent organization dedicated to the purpose of actively investigating human rights violations committed by Indian Armed Forces in Kashmir.
