State Bank of India - sbi INTOUCH 

SBI aims to transform the customer experience by delivering world-class service through all of its customer channels. Its new branches, branded as sbiINTOUCH, are equipped with interactive wall and table displays; remote experts that can be reached instantly via high-definition videoconferencing; and multi-function kiosks that provide services such as instant account opening with personalized debit cards, and instant in-principle approvals for home, auto or education loans. The branches are located in major metropolitan areas across India, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Ahmedabad.




President Pranab Mukherjee to make Twitter debut 

Pranab Mukherjee, who already has a presence on social media site facebook and enjoys 5.4 lakh likes, will be the first Indian President to be on twitter. 

With this Mukherjee joins leaders across the world who are connecting with the people directly. Sources said this is part of the President's effort to be in constant touch with the public and make Rashtrapati Bhavan accessible for the common man. 


Sanjiv Singh takes over as IOC’s director of refineries 


Sanjiv Singh took over as the Director (Refineries) of Indian Oil Corp (IOC), the nation's largest oil firm. He took over from Raj Kumar Ghosh.A Chemical Engineer from IIT-Roorkee, Singh joined IOC in 1981 and has worked in various positions at Mathura, Barauni and Panipat refineries.

No new taxes in Madhya Pradesh budget 




The Madhya Pradesh government proposed no newtaxes in the budget for 2014-15, that projects a fiscal deficit of Rs 13,425 crore.


Presenting the budget in the state Assembly here, Finance Minister Jayant Malaiyya said that 34 implements used in agriculture have been exempted from tax.

US names mountain after an Indian-American scientist 

The United States has named a mountain in Antarctica in honour of an eminent Indian-American scientist whose pioneering biological research expedition has provided critical data about animal populations. 

Akhouri Sinha, adjunct professor in the department of genetics, cell biology and development at the 
University of Minnesota, was recognized by the US Geological Survey, which named the mountain Mt Sinha, for his work he did as an explorer in 1971-72. 


Ratan Tata to receive Frost & Sullivan's GIL award 


Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of the diversified conglomerate Tata Group, will receive the Growth, Innovation and Leadership Award 2014 by Frost & Sullivan.
The award will be presented in Mumbai on September 23 during Frost & Sullivan's annual Growth, Innovation and Leadership Executive Congress.



Actor Shah Rukh Khan receives top French honour

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan was conferred with top French civilian award -- 'Knight of the Legion of Honor'. Visiting French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius presented the prestigious award to the 48-year-old actor at a function for his outstanding contribution to cultural diversity across the world.

In a move to expand its footprint, public broadcaster 'Prasar Bharati' is contemplating entering into the European market to present the Indian voices to international audiences. 




France proposes 1 billion euro credit line for sustainable development projects in India 

France has proposed giving India a 1 billion euro credit line for sustainable and urban development in the country over the next three years, France Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius  said.

Former New Zealand batsman Lou Vincent admits match-fixing 





Former New Zealand batsman Lou Vincent has been banned from cricket worldwide for life after admitting match-fixing.
The 35-year-old will never be able to play, coach or participate in any form of cricket after admitting 18 counts related to fixing and deliberately under­performing while playing county cricket for Lancashire and Sussex.



Wal-Mart starts virtual wholesale stores in Hyderabad, Lucknow 


Wal-Mart India launched its online wholesale platform in the country, offering the service in Hyderabad and Lucknow. 

The e-commerce platform will provide the same range of products as its wholesale stores, as well as special items for members, Prior to the launch, Wal-Mart India organised workshops with members in the two cities to generate awareness about the initiative and to create a better understanding about website navigation, benefits and registration processes,the company said in a statement. 



Google Inc buys music streaming service Songza 

Google Inc has acquired streaming music service Songza, the Internet search company's latest move to play a bigger role in the fast-growing online music business. 

Google said on  July 1, it would explore ways to incorporate aspects of Songza into its existing streaming music service over the coming months. 



Google shutting down Orkut social network, to focus on more popular services

Orkut, Google's first social networking site, will cease to exist after September, with the Internet giant deciding to shut down the service launched 10 years ago.
Google said it will shut down Orkut, which is very popular in India and Brazil, on September 30.
